AIRFIX 2021: DE HAVILLAND DELIGHTS!
Modelling as a hobby appears to have undergone a renaissance last year, and if Airfix’s release schedule for 2021 is anything to go by, it will continue to strengthen.
YOUR AIRFIX
Airfix’s 1/72 Jet Provost delighted Mark Rose, who used the kit as a centrepiece for this ‘first solo flight’ diorama.
FLYING IRON
The re-release of Airfix’s 1/48 Gloster Javelin has been awaited eagerly by modellers; it is a direct reissue comprising nine styrene runners packed with crisply moulded parts.
PANZER NEMESIS
Comprising ten styrene runners plus separate upper and lower turret halves and hull, with single-piece vinyl tracks, a small photo-etched (PE) brass fret and a length of thread, Airfix’s M36B1 is a direct re-boxing of the Academy kit (based on that firm’s 2001 tooling of the M10), albeit with new decals.
SOUTHERN TRAVELLER
After an absence of more than a decade from Airfix’s catalogue, its 1962-vintage HM Bark Endeavour sailing ship kit has been re-released to commemorate 250 years since Capt James Cook became the first European to map Australia’s eastern shoreline.
LUNAR GIFT SET
While commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landings, Airfix’s lunar diorama is also timed perfectly to pick up on the renewed interest in space following recent SpaceX missions and Space Launch System developments.
TINY TRACKS
Comprising just four styrene runners, Airfix’s returning 1/72 Universal Carrier and 6-pounder gun illustrates the diminutive size of the Vickers-Armstrong design, often referred to as a ‘Bren Gun Carrier’ due to the armament carried.
