Welcome to Airfix Model World (AMW). We hope you will be pleasantly surprised by the contents, not just in terms of actual builds, but also the high-quality photography (all by contributors) and explanatory text. Both have been trademarks of this magazine since its inception, with the former crucial to creating an easily understandable article – after all, model-making is a visual hobby, so we have always strived to show readers just how the end result is achieved.
Airfix Model World Magazine Features
While we feature Airfix products in every issue, we also cover those from other major manufacturers, such as Eduard, Hasegawa, Revell, Special Hobby, IBG Models, Italeri, Tamiya and Kinetic, as well as those from limited-run and ‘cottage industry’ firms. It means we cover every genre of the hobby, from figures and aircraft to armour, maritime and sci-fi/real space, with the aim of providing the broadest selection of content.
Furthermore, AMW has strived to include informative history/background articles with certain build features, often providing a different take on an otherwise familiar topic. These are written by renowned historians or people involved intimately with a subject. If you are seeking something more in-depth, then we occasionally publish special supplements, dedicated sections or bookazines, which focus on either a theme or a newly-tooled kit, along with valuable reference material on the real subject where feasible. No other monthly scale modelling magazine offers this much variety and quality.

HIGH-FLIER
This excellent four-piece resin figure depicts a US pilot fitted with a pressure suit, making it suitable for high-altitude capable platforms such as the SR-71/A-12/YF-12 Blackbird and U-2.
OUT FOR A SPIN
Here’s a great addition for ICM’s Model T 1913 Speedster (24015), with a driver and passenger dressed up for a drive in the countryside; it would also be ideal for its Roadster (24001).
NUCLEAR CLEAN-UP
This is the second boxed set from ICM inspired by the recent TV series Chernobyl, and marries the firm’s superb AC-40-137A (1986) Soviet Fire truck (35519), four newly tooled figures (available separately as 35623) and a three-sided display backdrop.
STEALTHY TWO-WHEELER
Having delighted modellers with the baseline Ninja H2, Tamiya has re-worked the parts by replacing three styrene runners with revised items to depict the higher-spec H2 Carbon version.
SPORTY SOFT-TOP
Although the box-top labels this kit as a 944S Cabriolet, the parts appear identical to the original 944 Cabriolet release (655), so aspects of the rear styling will need scratch-building for an accurate S-model soft-top.
VOITURE TRICOLOR
Revell’s 2011 Citroën 2CV has been repackaged with new decals to allow this smart Cocorico (‘cock-a-doodledoo’) edition to be built.
BY AIR AND BY SEA
Revell has continued its partnership and support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS – German Maritime Search and Rescue Service) with the release of this large two-kit ship and helicopter gift set.
MARITIME GIANT
United States-based Imperial Hobby Productions is probably better known for its railway associated products, but its first styrene ship kit, HMS Colossus, is very impressive.
FLOATING FLAK
Ship-kit specialist Starling Models’ range of resin and photo-etched brass waterline subjects continues with HMS Alynbank, a converted anti-aircraft cruiser from World War Two.
MERLIN-POWERED SUPERMARINES
This tribute to 1/32 Spitfires from Fündekals features 12 schemes for Merlin-engined Mk.I, Vb, IXc and XVIe airframes, with a mix of aircraft flown by British, American, Australian and New Zealand pilots, including several notable aces.
