The BR ‘9F’ 2-10-0s were one of the most impressive of the Riddles Standard designs and the last was built in March 1960 - 92220 Evening Star. MIKE WILD looks to the Bachmann model and shows how a twin speaker setup can be added together with stay alive and firebox flicker.

Bachmann’s ‘OO’ gauge BR ‘9F’ 2-10-0 looks superb in BR lined green as 92220 Evening Star. Surprisingly this particular version is now 14 years old - it being from the first batch of ‘9Fs’ released by Bachmann in 2006.

IT’S HARD TO IGNORE the presence of a ‘9F’. These imposing 1954-introduced 2-10-0s were huge locomotives which made full use of the British Railways loading gauge. Measuring 66ft 2in from buffer to buffer and capable of delivering almost 40,000lbf of tractive effort, they were masters of all tasks - from slow freights to passenger trains.
