What’s arguably the best-value 1/72 Tomcat on the market has been re-boxed with fresh markings to replicate the F-14B. CHRIS CLIFFORD studies the contents.


While there are slightly more refined and better detailed 1/72 kits of the legendary F-14 Tomcat available (Fine Molds, Great Wall Hobby), Academy’s new tooling first issued in 2019 (F-14A) offers more ‘bang per buck’ than any other. If you already have the ‘A’, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to realise the generic runners mean you could also build the F-14B if you have the right markings – but also that more sub-types would appear over time.
