ACCURASCALE has revealed an all-new Brush Class 31 A1A-A1A diesel for ‘OO’ gauge. Already at an advanced stage of development, tooling for the new model is complete and working Engineering Prototype (EP) samples have been received by the development team for evaluation.
First introduced in the late 1950s, the Brush Type 2s were built at Brush Traction’s Loughborough Works, with the initial batch of 20 pilot scheme locomotives (D5500-D5519) followed by subsequent orders for the remainder of the class, eventually totalling 263. They were originally fitted with Mirrlees engines, although these were later replaced with more reliable English Electric 12SVT engines.
Initially designated Class 30 by British Rail, as they were re-engined the locomotives were reclassified as Class 31s, with sub-classes including 31/0 (pilot scheme locomotives), 31/1 (production series) and later 31/4, 31/5, 31/6 and 31/9.
