The latest additions to the Accurascale HAA hopper family are the CDA china clay hoppers, introduced for service in Cornwall. Find out more here.
JOINING the Accurascale wagon collection this month are its latest HAA family vehicles – the china clay carrying CDA covered hoppers.
The CDA fleet was built in 1987-1988 with 124 wagons being completed at Doncaster Works to replace ageing four-wheel wooden bodied wagons with tarpaulin covers known as clay hoods. They were joined by a further 15 in 1989, with the latter batch converted from HAA coal hoppers.
The CDAs were built specifically for china clay traffic with English China Clay (ECC) in Cornwall and rarely stray outside of county lines. The CDAs remain in traffic today having passed from BR to EWS ownership at privatisation in the 1990s and subsequently to DB Cargo.
