Accurascale has received the first Engineering Prototype (EP) sample of its new ’OO’ gauge Class 89 Co-Co electric for assessment. Revealed earlier this year, the all-new ‘OO’ Class 89 project is a joint development between Accurascale and Rails of Sheffield.
Five models of 89001 are planned, finished in present-day InterCity ‘Swallow’, original InterCity ‘Swallow’, GNER (gold lettering), GNER (white lettering) and InterCity ‘Executive’ colour schemes.
The specification includes a die-cast metal chassis, five-pole motor, twin flywheels, metal helical gearbox, all-wheel drive and pick-up, 21-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, separately-applied etched metal and plastic detailing, sprung metal buffers, scale-sized Brecknell-Willis pantograph (which can be raised or lowered on DCC) and powerpack capacitor. Sound-fitted models will also include twin pre-fitted speakers and a hall sensor for wheel flange sound effects on DCC.
This first sample will enable Accurascale’s team to scrutinise the body moulding, bogies and small detail parts before progressing to the next stage.
Following feedback, any amendments will be made to the tooling and decorated samples will then be produced for evaluation. These are anticipated for early 2023, with delivery currently slated for the third quarter of 2023.
Prices are set at £229.99 for DCC ready models and £329.99 for DCC sound-fitted examples.
