Accurascale has received First Engineering Prototype samples of its forthcoming newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge Great Eastern ‘Buckjumper’ 0-6-0Ts for assessment by the company’s project team.
Collectively known as ‘Buckjumpers’ due to their lively running characteristics, these former Great Eastern Railway locomotives were reclassified ‘J67’, ‘J68’ and ‘J69’ by the London and North Eastern Railway following a complex series of alterations.
Accurascale’s extensive tooling suite will enable all the main design variables to be produced over time, with these first EP samples demonstrating the detail differences possible. Further refinements will be required before production can commence with several areas noted for improvement including the cab beading area, the fit of the cab sheets and the removable magnetic cab roofs. Brake rigging and the fit of the chimney for these steam locomotives will also need refining.
Accurascale’s new models are set to feature a die-cast metal chassis and boiler, large coreless motor, helical gearbox, all-wheel pick-up, Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, stay alive arrangement, separately fitted metal and plastic detailing, sprung metal buffers and more.
Five colour schemes are planned initially on the 'OO' gauge 0-6-0T, finished as ‘J69’ 359 in L&NER black (Cat No. ACC2427/ACC2440-DCC), ‘J67’ 68535 in BR plain black with early crests (ACC2434/ACC2447-DCC), ‘J69’ 68619 in lined dark blue (Liverpool Street shed) with BR late crests (ACC2449/ACC2442DCC), ‘J68’ 68646 in BR plain black with late crests (ACC2428/ACC2441DCC) and ‘J67’ 84 in Great Eastern Railway lined ultramarine (ACC2426/ACC2439-DCC).
Prices are set at £139.99 DCC ready and £239.99 DCC sound fitted. Release is expected during the second quarter of 2024.
