‘OO’ GWR ‘57XX’ 0-6-0PT next for Accurascale

Accurascale has revealed it is working on a selection of all-new Great Western Railway (GWR) ‘57XX’ 0-6-0PTs for ‘OO’ gauge. Watch its launch video and read our full story detailing this new announcement here.

Designed by Charles Collett, more than 860 of these versatile locomotives were built between 1929 and 1949 by the GWR’s Swindon Works and various contractors.

Accurascale’s newly-tooled ’OO’ gauge locomotives will model the ‘57XX’ and outwardly similar ‘67XX’ and ‘8750’ 0-6-0PT, incorporating detail differences between each through the years. The company is aiming to model options that have not been produced before, so examples with backplate feed will feature highly in the schedule, as will examples in as-built condition and the contractor-built locomotives which featured riveted tanks

Amongst the smaller variations incorporated are whistles with or without a whistle guard, water filler types, cast or fabricated brake hangers, three-link or screwlink couplings, position and number of spare lamp irons

The new models’ specification includes a die-cast metal chassis, coreless motor, flywheel, all-wheel pick-ups, factory-fitted cube speakers, twin LED firebox flicker, Powerpack capacitor, and pull-out Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder board (through a magnetically removable smokebox door).kmw_hm_accura_pannier_3

Nine standard locomotives are planned in the first batch, modelling 5754 and 6743 in Great Western Railway livery, 7755 in GWR shirt button livery, 5741 in GWR green, 9741 in British Railways green, 8763 in BR lined black with early crests, 9681 in BR black with late crests, 7714 in BR black with early crests and 7754 in National Coal Board (NCB green).

Prices are set at £139.95 DCC ready and £239.95 DCC sound-fitted. Release is currently slated for the first quarter of 2025.
