Accurascale Mk 5s gain colour

Accurascale has unveiled the first decorated samples of its newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge Mk 5 carriages.

These latest samples showcase the level of decoration that is being applied to the all-new Mk 5 Caledonian Sleeper and Mk 5a TransPennine Express Nova 3 vehicles.

Accurascale is producing all four Caledonian Sleeper vehicle types for ‘OO’ – Club, Seated, Accessible Sleeper and Sleeper. Seven four-car packs and a six-car set of Caledonian Sleeper Mk 5s are being produced to enable the Highland and Lowland sleeper formations to be replicated accurately, either in their entirety or in Aberdeen, Inverness, Fort William, Edinburgh or Glasgow portions.

Following assessment of the samples, a number of amendments to the glazing and decoration have been noted, that will be improved before production commences.

Accurascale is also producing the Mk 5a Nova 3 sets in TransPennine Express’ complex colour scheme, which has proved challenging for the factory to reproduce in model form. As a result, the decoration for these models is taking longer than anticipated, with revised samples now expected during September.

The manufacturer has also developed an all-new magnetic Dellner coupling for use between vehicles, which has been designed to fit into standard NEM coupler pockets. These offer close-coupling between coaches and will also be sold separately in due course.

Prices are set at £179.99 for four-car Caledonian Sleeper packs and £270 for the six-car Aberdeen portion pack, while Mk 5a Nova 3 five-car sets are priced at £225. Delivery is now expected in 2022.
