Accurascale has received decorated samples of its forthcoming Ruston and Hornsby 88DS locomotives for ‘O’ gauge.
First announced at the Great Electric Train Show in October 2023, Accurascale’s all-new ‘O’ gauge models are set to appear in a selection of BR and industrial liveries including BR green, BR blue, Eastern Gas Board red, West Midlands Joint Electricity Board Ruston Works green, National Coal Board rail blue, Bowaters Northfleet industrial pale green, Babcock & Wilcox industrial green with ‘wasp’ stripes, Rowntree Mackintosh lined green and NEI-Clark Chapman lined blue with arrows.
Each will feature a die-cast metal chassis, five-pole skew-wound motor, flywheel, all-wheel drive and pick-up, directional lights, interior lights, factory fitted speakers, PluX22 Digital Command Control (DCC) socket, metal three-link or screw-link couplings, fully detailed underframe, flush glazing, sprung metal buffers and more.
Several amendments will be necessary before the model progresses to the next stage of development, such as improvements to the overall masking and yellow on the ‘wasp’ stripes and the shade of red applied to the Tottenham Gas Works example. Further improvements will also be made to the removable engine panel which is too tight and the Donkey Engine panels which do not sit as flush as they should.
Priced at £229.99 DCC ready and £319.99 DCC sound fitted, Accurascale’s all-new ‘O’ gauge Ruston and Hornsby 88DS locomotives remain on schedule for release in early 2025.
