OO Works has revealed that its next 'OO' gauge ready-to-run locomotive will be the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) 'A12' 0-4-2.

Built between 1887 and 1895, ninety of William Adams' mixed traffic design were constructed - 50 at the LSWR's Nine Elms Works and 40 at Nielson and Co. of Glasgow. They were popular engines and were allocated across the LSWR/SR system with examples based at Basingstoke, Exmouth Junction, Guildford, Nine Elms, Plymouth, Salisbury, Strawberry Hill, Wadebridge and Yeovil.

By the 1920s, these 'Jubilees' (so-called as the first example appeared during Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887) were mainly employed on branch line duties, pick-up goods and shunting. Most had been withdrawn by the late 1940s, although one remained in departmental use at Eastleigh until late 1951. None were preserved.

Three LSWR/SR models are planned initially as No.631 in LSWR lined holly green, No.598 in SR olive green and No.629 in SR/BR black with sunshine lettering. As with previous releases each of these hand assembled models will be fully decorated and feature a coreless motor (M05).

Prices are set at £298 for the SR/BR black models and £315 for the LSWR and SR liveried examples. Delivery is expected later this summer.
