The final new-tooling from Airfix’s 2022 release schedule is the Avro Anson Mk.I and the firm has arguably saved the best until last.
This twin-engine type hasn’t featured prominently in kit manufacturer’s catalogues, with a single previous 1/48 injection-moulded styrene example (and just two in 1/72), so Airfix’s quarter-scale Anson fills a glaring gap in the market. And what a treat it is, with the fuselage packed with sumptuous detail – all of which will be visible through the greenhouse-like cockpit/cabin glazing. Surface detail is among the best provided by Airfix, from the faux fabric covers on the fuselage to the delicate ‘canning’ on the wings’ external surfaces, replicating an effect in the styrene that would be challenging to otherwise emulate.
