Airfix’s splendid 1/48 Hunter returns in FGA.9/FR.10/GA.11 guise and Dean Large gives this pre-production offering an in-depth examination.
There’s an old aviation engineering adage that says “If it looks right, it’ll fly right” and it can be argued that Sir Sidney Camm’s Hawker Hunter design is living proof of its accuracy. When Airfix announced it was amending its 2019 1/48 kit to allow a FGA.9, FR.10 or a GA.11 version to be built, this author put in a request to the editor to be the one to build the new offering. The kit appears well up to Airfix’s latest standards of moulding, and the fit of the main parts was such that it was anticipated this might be a project where no filler was required. Not quite, but not far off. This pre-production sample had one or two teething troubles with the instructions, which should hopefully be sorted before the kit hits the shelves.
