Kev Baxter was delighted to preview the latest and arguably the greatest Airfix release in 1/72 scale to date, a newly tooled Gloster Meteor F.8.
When Airfix Model World's editor asked whether I’d like to have a crack at a test-shot of Airfix’s newly tooled 1/72 Meteor F.8, the question had hardly registered before an emphatic: “Yes please!” response.
With great anticipation, the test-shot duly arrived, minus the box and decals, but with a full instruction sheet. First impressions were that Airfix has listened to modellers, with this kit bringing the firm right up to date with the competition in terms of detail and precision. I had high hopes of a thoroughly enjoyable build, so set to work. Spoiler alert: this build did not disappoint!
Airfix has included markings for three schemes in this initial boxing; two wear overall High Speed Silver, while one features Dark Green/Dark Sea Grey camouflage-clad upper surfaces:
