The origins of the de Havilland Aircraft Company’s DH.98 Mosquito were complex and unconventional. Geoffrey de Havilland – his namesake company having made its name in the inter-war civil aviation industry – was determined to make a significant contribution to World War Two. He drew on his own World War One experience to promote the concept of a fast, high-flying unarmed bomber that could survive in hostile areas by virtue of its performance alone rather vigorously.
