Airfix 1/72 Tiger I and Sherman Firefly Vc

Airfix’s new dual package featuring the Tiger I and Firefly should interest armour modellers who favour smaller scales. CHRIS CLIFFORD inspects the contents.

Two wartime icons meet in this Classic Conflict release – the series effectively being the ground-based version of Airfix’s popular Dogfight Double collection for airborne adversaries. In the box are parts for a Tiger I Ausf. E and a Sherman Firfely Vc, moulded in sand and green styrene respectively. Interestingly, both beginners and more experienced modellers are catered for. You can either opt for the ‘easy-build’ track option – whereby the Tiger’s entire running gear are portrayed by two parts per side, and for the Firefly, a single part each side – or use the separate link-and length tracks, and multi-part assembly for both vehicles. It’s a clever choice, and both offer good detail for 1/72 scale and price.

Above and below: For modellers wanting more of a challenge, both the Tiger and Firefly have well-detailed link-and-length tracks.
