AIRFIX WHIRLWIND HELICOPTER RETURNS

The venerable 1/72 rotorcraft originating from a 1956 tooling is now reissued as part of the firm’s Vintage Classics collection, as CHRIS CLIFFORD discovers.

AIRFIX WHIRLWIND HELICOPTER RETURNS

Unforgettable for modellers of a certain age, mainly due to its vivid green and white livery, Airfix’s 1/72 Whirlwind HAS.22 helicopter is available again as part of the Vintage Classics series (A02056V). It was first released in Royal Navy 781 Naval Air Squadron  ‘Admiral’s Barge’ colours in 1974, and had three subsequent reissues before this latest outing. Previous to that, the model appeared in a bag/header card package as HMS Protector’s (A146) black and Day-Glo HAR.1 for Antarctic exploration work, and beforehand a British European Airways S-55.
