EXCLUSIVE BUILD
Richard Spreckley examines Airfix's highly anticipated 1/48 Blackburn Buccaneer S.2C/D in depth, constructing the model in full.
Blackburn’s Buccaneer was designed in the 1950s in response to the Royal Navy’s requirement for an ultra-low altitude maritime strike aircraft that could penetrate the defences of a new generation of Soviet warships. An all-weather platform, it could carry conventional or nuclear weapons, with its form influenced by the need to maintain stable flight at high-subsonic speeds, resulting in a ‘banana’ shape for the fuselage, plus rotating bomb bay and a boundary layer control system.
