With Airfix’s 1/24 Harrier GR.1 due for re-release this year, Airscale marks the event with a stunning bespoke instrument panel.
Airscale is renowned for its aftermarket improvements for cockpits – mostly via finely printed decals, but also photo-etched (PE) metal. On learning that Airfix is to re-issue its 1/24 Harrier GR.1 ‘Superkit’, Airscale got to work on producing a dedicated instrument panel to replace the kit’s styrene item.
In this large scale, detail is everything. Airscale is fully aware of this and, its new Harrier item is brimming with it. There’s a one-piece main panel shape, and corresponding decal featuring all the dials. Separate PE parts are then overlaid to sandwich the decal. A sheet of clear acetate is also provided; the idea is that you use the PE parts to help create templates for cutting dial glass out of the acetate, and apply accordingly.
Pleasingly, proper mounting plates surround the dials where necessary, and switches/knobs can be fashioned from stretched sprue or plastic rod, for extra fidelity.
At £11.95, this is a worthy addition to Airfix’s kit and will make a big difference to modellers seeking a more refined 'office'. To order, visit: www.airscale.co.uk
