The powerful and versatile ‘5101’ and ‘61XX’ 2-6-2Ts are the latest Great Western motive power to be released for ‘OO’ gauge by Hornby. MIKE WILD inspects the first arrival – 6145 in BR black.

PRAIRIE tanks have a long association with the Great Western Railway (GWR). The first of the 2-6-2T breed was introduced in 1903 when Churchward developed the ‘3100’ series locomotives. There were numerous changes over the years, including the introduction of the smaller ‘45XX’ class ‘Small Prairie’ in 1906.
