3D-PRINTED GERMAN TYPE UBI SUBMARINE FROM ASK DISTRIBUTION

Maritime modellers will love this stunning 1/72 mixed-media kit, which also benefits from extensive photo-etched (PE) brass, as CHRIS CLIFFORD reveals.

3D-PRINTED GERMAN TYPE UBI SUBMARINE FROM ASK DISTRIBUTION

If you’re a fan of modelling U-boats, ASK Distribution’s new 1/72 UBI German coastal submarine is arguably the ultimate kit. A World War One machine, the Type UBI was first ordered in 1915, being built by A G Weser. Boats UB1-UB8 were the initial machines, while two extra (UB1 and UB15), were to be passed to the Austro-Hungarian Navy once built; these were replaced by UB16 and UB17.

Most UBIs served in the Flanders Flotilla, but also operated within the Baltic and Constantinople Flotillas. At approximately 92ft long, they were not huge as subs go, but the UBI is a fascinating subject. ASK’s new kit (166-SKU-0239) – produced by www.rcsubs.cz – is a super-accurate replica, this website’s proprietor being a noted expert on the subject.
