AVRO-NAVALE

INTERMEDIATE BUILD

Jen Wright pays homage to one of the few surviving Lancaster airframes with Airfix’s re-released 1/72 B.III

AVRO LANCASTER B.VII

When offered the chance to represent Avro Lancaster B.VIII NX611 ‘Just Jane’ in model form several months ago, I jumped at the chance. Having spent many happy hours in this aircraft’s company across several visits to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at various events, making a model seemed an obvious next step. Using Airfix’s 1/72 B.III kit as a basis, a selection of aftermarket goodies was chosen to elevate the detail level, along with a decal set that offered markings charting the life of the aircraft. Since the editor was keen to include an air-launched lifeboat in the mix, we decided on the earliest operational incarnation of NX611, as delivered to the French Aéronavale in 1952.
