First Engineering Prototype (EP) samples of Bachmann’s all-new Graham Farish ‘N’ gauge Class 158 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) have arrived with the company’s development team for evaluation.

British Rail’s Class 158 DMUs were built in the late 1980s/early 1990s at Derby Litchurch Lane Works for use on Regional Railways services. They were configured as two and three-car units, with some 158s later converted to Class 159 units for use on Network SouthEast West of England services between London Waterloo and the West Country.

Bachmann’s all-new Class 158s are set to appear in two-car format initially as 158849 in Regional Railways livery (Cat No. 371-850) and 158711 in ScotRail Saltire colours (371-851).

Designed from the rails up, they will feature low-profile coreless motor drive, Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, detailed interiors, directional lighting and factory-fitted speaker for digital sound installations.

Priced at £274.95 DCC ready, release is currently anticipated during the first quarter of 2023.
