Bachmann has launched an all-new 'OO' gauge model of the English Electric Class 37 diesel.
Unveiling the model in a surprise move at the DEMU (Diesel and Electric Modellers United) Showcase in Sutton Coldfield today (July 23), these newly-tooled models have been designed from scratch utilising original drawings, site visits, surveys and diagrams, with Class 37/0s and refurbished Class 37/4s appearing initially. First to arrive are a pair of refurbished Class 37/4s, revealed at the exhibition this weekend.
Bearing the hallmarks of Bachmann's recently introduced Class 47, the new Class 37s will feature a die-cast metal chassis, five-pole motor with twin flywheels, all-wheel drive and pick-up, die-cast metal bogie towers, PluX22 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder interface, dual factory-fitted speakers, together with a new 'Yard light' feature enabling red tail lights and/or marker lights to be displayed at both ends under DCC operation - and a raft of locomotive specific detailing.
Commenting on the all-new models, Bachmann's David Haarhaus said: “Like any long established company, Bachmann Europe Plc will continually invest and improve its product wherever possible or commercially viable. Incorporating the latest technology and processes to set the next baseline for our ranges. The overwhelmingly positive response we have enjoyed for our Class 158 and Class 47 models has given us great confidence to maintain our policy of perpetual development and improvement.”
David continued: “This wonderful all new Mk3 Branchline Class 37 arrives in high street stores as our company looks forward to the 190th anniversary of the Bachmann brand in 2023. We would like to thank all of our retail partners, Bachmann Collectors Club members and consumers for recognising the benefits of being part of our extended Bachmann family. This beautiful new “Tractor” is a perfect prelude to next year’s celebrations and will be available from your local model store next week.”
Bachmann's all-new 'OO' gauge Class 37 is available initially as 37430 Cwmbran in BR large logo blue (Cat No. 35-335/SF/SFX) and as a Bachmann Collectors Club exclusive finished as 37422 Cardiff Canton in EWS livery (35-335K/KSF/KSFX). Each will be offered as DCC ready, DCC sound-fitted and DCC sound-fitted deluxe options. Four different sound projects have been developed to accompany the forthcoming digital sound-fitted releases covering the original Class 37/0s, original locomotives with thermostatically controlled fans, Class 37/4s and later DRS-modified examples.
