Sealed beam ‘Peaks’ are back!

FIRST REVIEW: Sealed
beam ‘Peaks’ are back!

The overhauled Class 45 ‘Peaks’ have been a missing component from the modern era ‘OO’ gauge catalogues, but Bachmann is setting that right with the arrival of its Regional Exclusive versions of the Class 45/0 with ‘sealed beam’ headlights. MIKE WILD takes a closer look at this new arrival from Bachmann which has been much requested.

THE DERBY BUILT CLASS 45 1-Co-Co-1 diesel-electrics have been a popular choice for ready-to-run models in ‘OO’ gauge with the first arriving on the scene with Mainline in the 1980s. It was later seen in the hands of Replica where the first version of the ‘sealed beam’ locomotive took to the rails for ‘OO’ gauge. Bachmann has continued the fleet’s legacy in the Branchline range, but following withdrawal of the Replica model, the ‘sealed beam’ locomotives have been a missing link as a mainstream release. The only other time this version has been available since is a short-lived Bachmann limited edition for Modelzone using the tooling shown here.
