Heljan has issued a new batch of 7mm scale Mk 1 carriages with two new designs of bogie. MIKE WILD takes a closer look at the First Corridor and Gangway Brake models.
Gauge: 'O' | Price: £219.00 | Cat No: HJ4936. HJ4957 | Site: www.heljan.co.uk | Era: 6/7 and 8
THE Mk 1 carriage has been part of the Heljan ‘O’ gauge collection since 2010 (HM35), but until now all versions have been released running on original BR B1 bogies. For this new batch, Heljan has developed brand new tooling for the Commonwealth and B4 bogie designs allowing more modern liveries to be applied to the coaches.
The new batch arrived in early May, offering a choice of vehicles in BR blue and grey, Regional Railways, Network SouthEast and InterCity ‘Executive’ colour schemes. Our review samples are a Mk 1 First Corridor (FK) in BR blue and grey (Cat No. 4936) together with a Gangway Brake (BG) carrying InterCity ‘Executive’ colours (4957). They feature Heljan’s latest generation box labelling which includes logos to show the era which the vehicle belongs and confirmation that these are both Light Bar Ready - which means they are suitable for use with Heljan’s recently released battery powered interior LED strip for carriages.
