BR 21ton HTO/HTV hoppers next for Accurascale

Accurascale has revealed BR 21ton HTO/HTV hoppers as its next ‘OO’ gauge wagon project, bolstering the company’s ‘Powering Britain’ range.

Several different diagrams are planned covering Diagram 1/146 wagons, which became the archetypal BR 21 ton hopper with welded bodywork and five upright strengtheners. Also planned are Diagram 1/147 hoppers, which were rebodied and upgraded former London and North Eastern Railway wagons and Diagram 1/149 hoppers which featured a five-rib body and saw use all over the UK.

Accurascale’s first batch of 'OO' gauge releases will model the Diagram 1/146 five-rib hoppers in their unfitted guise and the Diagram 1/147 and 1/149 rebuilt two-rib examples – with and without vacuum braking. The company’s extensive tooling suite will provide for four different styles of axle box to match the prototype wagons, with plate or cast grease boxes and SKF or Timken roller bearings examples.

Currently at the Engineering Prototype (EP) sample stage of the development process, decorated samples are expected soon. Each wagon will feature separately-fitted detailing, die-cast chassis, separately-fitted brake gear, representation of the hopper operating mechanism, brass bearings, straightforward conversion to finescale standards and more.

Accurascale’s newly-tooled 21ton hopper wagons in HOP 21/HOP21VB/HTO and HTV (vacuum fitted) forms will be offered in triple wagon packs with multiple running numbers and authentic printed detail differences in BR freight grey and BR bauxite. Priced at £99.99 per triple wagon pack, release is anticipated during the third quarter of 2025.
