CAVALEX Models has delivered its second ‘OO’ gauge wagon project with the arrival of the BBA 75tonne bogie steel wagons.
More than 500 of these 50ft long bogie steel-carrying wagons were built between 1973 and 1981 at BR’s Ashford workshops for use on steel traffic in South Wales, the Midlands, North East and Scotland. Many were later converted to other steel carrying types such as BLA wagons with cradles for steel coil – a vehicle type that Cavalex Models has also produced in 4mm scale, exclusively for Rails of Sheffield.
Our review sample was finished as BBA 910075 in BR Railfreight red with black ends, representing a prototype built at BR’s Ashford Works in 1974. A plain brown version with contemporary markings has also been produced for those who wish to weather their models to capture a present-day work-stained appearance. Rails of Sheffield has also commissioned a series of exclusive BBA and BLA triple-wagon packs from the manufacturer.
