Cavalex Class 60 EP surfaces

Cavalex Models has received the first Engineering Prototype (EP) sample of its forthcoming newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge Class 60 diesel.

Launched in February 2023, Cavalex Models’ all-new ‘OO’ gauge Class 60 has been developed from scratch using works drawings and surveys of the prototypes, with detail variations incorporated within the tooling suite to reflect the prototypes accurately throughout their careers.

The extensive specification includes a heavy die-cast chassis, five-pole motor, twin flywheels, 21-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket, photo-etched grilles, separately fitted detailing, two styles of cab roof mounted airhorns, on-board power-bank for uninterrupted running characteristics, fully independent lighting control, illuminated cab interior and more. Etched nameplates will also be included (where appropriate).

Fourteen different 'OO' gauge models are planned including Key Publishing’s exclusive model of 60029 Ben Nevis in DCR grey, together with 60027 Joseph Banks in BR Railfreight Petroleum, 60061 Alexander Graham Bell in BR Railfreight Coal Sector, 60049 Scafell in BR Railfreight Metals and 60017 Arenig Fawr in BR Railfreight Construction colour schemes. Also planned are 60059 Swinden Dalesmen in Loadhaul orange and black, 60018 in EWS maroon and gold, 60010 in debranded DB Cargo red, 60076 in Colas Rail Freight livery,  60087 in GB Railfreight (GBRf) colours and 60028 in Cappagh blue.

Three models exclusive to Rails of Sheffield complete the line-up including 60062 Steel on Steel – Sonia in DB Cargo 'steel’ livery, 60081 Isambard Kingdom Brunel in GWR green and 60098 Charles Francis Brush in BR Railfreight Construction Sector livery (in partnership with the National Railway Museum).

Prices for each (apart from 60062) are set at £194.95 DCC ready and £294.95 DCC sound-fitted. Delivery is currently slated for late 2024.
