It is almost 30 years since RON BAILES embarked on the creation of this impressive 7mm scale layout which combines standard and narrow gauge operation. He explains how it has tripled in length from the original design to deliver an impressive 36ft long exhibition model of an East Anglian brick works.

A narrow gauge train emerges from the quarry tunnel destined for the pressing shed and passes the old quarry workings. BTH Type 1 (Class 15) D8212 and train wait to propel out of the exchange sidings while a Derby Lightweight DMU brakes for signals approaching the station. The BTH Type 1 is a Little Loco Co model while the DMU is an early Bachmann Brassworks product. The narrow gauge engine and wagons are also Bachmann.

CHERRY ORCHARD is the culmination of 25 years in 1990 of modelling. It started with the acquisition of a set of baseboards measuring 12ft x 2ft and has since grown to a total of 36ft x 4ft while also encompassing the addition of standard gauge to the original narrow gauge scene.
