The Czech firm has a neat collection of newly crafted items in four different scales, across the aircraft and military genres.
Whether you’re an aircraft modeller, or favour military subjects, CMK’s recent raft of releases is bound to have something useful for you. In 1/72 scale, there are the following products:
P48002 L-4 Grasshopper Engine (Continental O-170-3) (€15, above)
Shown at the top of this article, Special Hobb's item involves a stunningly detailed 3D-printed engine and upper/lower cowlings for the same firm’s recent new-tool L-4 kit. The engine comes mounted on a firewall, and basic surgery is required to remove the kit’s styrene cowling area. You’ll also need to add ignition cables from fine wire (not supplied).
M72041 Mirage IIIC Masks (€4.30, above)
Sister brand Special Mask’s 1/72 new-tool Mirage IIIC is now available, so this new mask set will be handy. It caters for the cockpit and under-nose glazing, as well as all of the wheels. The masks are self-adhesive and die-cut items, therefore no cutting out is necessary.
7481 Beaufighter Mk.I/VI Mainwheels Early Wheel Disc/Block Tread Pattern (€4, above)
These exquisite cast resin mainwheels have superb tread, sharply rendered five-spoke hubs and weighted effect bulges at the bottom. They are designed to fit the 1/72 Airfix kit, but can almost certainly be adapted for other makers’ Beaufighters.
M48008 Siebel Si 204E Aero C-3B Bomber Masks (€4.30, above)
A type such as this Siebel is heavy on the nose glazing, so a dedicated mask set can save much time in the finishing process. Special Mask’s self-adhesive items will make short work of protecting the glazing ahead of painting/airbrushing. The turret is also catered for with these bespoke masks, produced for Special Hobby’s 1/48 kit.
F48383 RAF WWII Fighter Pilot (1942) (€9.30, above)
Splendid for posing with a Hurricane, Spitfire or even a Mustang, CMK’s new 1/48 RAF pilot is cast in resin and has worthy detail. The classic Irvin leather jacket is well rendered, as are the facial features, leather flying helmet (with integral chin strap, dangling) and boots. The folds/creases in the clothing are prominent enough to enable high- and lowlight painting. You may just have to remove a wispy portion of casting flash from between the legs. A photo-etched (PE) brass belt is supplied for the jacket.
F32381 RAF Whirlwind Fighter Pilot (1942) (€15.50, above)
Quite why this is billed as a ‘Whirlwind’ pilot is anyone’s guess, because it’s an upscaled version of the previously mentioned pilot figure… therefore suitable for posing with many types (note that Special Hobby released a 1/32 Whirlwind). Here, though, CMO offers a separately cast helmeted head, but again, a PE belt is provided to enliven the Irvin jacket, as well as a helmet chin strap in the same medium.
B72106 Sd.Kfz.250/Sd.Kfz.10 Tracks (€7.80, above)
If you have either of the aforementioned 1/72 Special Armour German half-tracks, these cast resin tracks from CMK’s Blitz Line range will add extra refinement. They are cast in one piece for ease of employment, and the rubber track pad – and guide horn – detail are impressive.
P35007 Panzerfaust 3 Modern Recoilless Anti-Tank Weapon (€9, above)
If you’re keen on creating modern 1/35 military vehicles, vignettes or full dioramas, this Panzerfaust will provide an interesting splash of detail. It’s a 3D-printed item with beautifully rendered features, and separate rocket rounds with different fuse formats (combat ready/transport). Waterslide decals are provided for the rounds.
This is another targeted and highly useful selection of items and there’s surely something for many an every adventurous modeller. They are all available direct from the CMK website, or Hannants mail order in the UK.
