Colour for Dapol VEAs
Dapol has received decorated samples of its newly-tooled ‘O' gauge BR Vanwide/VEA box vans for inspection by the company's development team.
Almost 2000 Vanwides were built in the early 1960s. They were of plywood and corrugated steel construction and featured wide flush doors. In the late 1970s, 550 were refurbished with air brakes for use on BR's Speedlink and MOD services, where their short wheelbase proved useful at some military bases.
Nine models are planned initially as VEA 230026 in BR freight brown (Cat No. 7F-049-001), VEA 230034 in BR freight brown (7F-049-002), VEA 230117 in BR Railfreight red and grey (7F-049-003), VEA 230142 in BR Railfreight grey with yellow ends (7F-049-004), VEA 230078 in BR Railfreight red and grey (7F-049-005), Vanwide B783773 in BR freight brown (7F-049-201), Vanwide (VMV) B784641 in BR freight brown (7F-049-202), Vanwide B784479 in BR freight brown (7F-049-203) and Vanwide (VWV) B783994 in BR freight brown (7F-049-204).
Following assessment and approval, production is expected to get underway shortly. Production models will feature Instanter couplings, rather than the three-link examples shown in the accompanying pictures.
Prices are set at £58.59 each, with delivery anticipated during the second half of the year.
