Dapol shows first HEA samples
Dapol has received engineering samples of its eagerly awaited HEA and HBA hoppers for 'O' gauge. The wagons are currently being reviewed by the development team with release expected in the first quarter of 2022.
The first HBA prototype was completed in 1975 at Shildon Works with 2,000 vehicles being completed. The HEAs had revised springs which were later fitted to the HBAs to increase their maximum speed. Traffic types included domestic coal initially, but in later years the fleet were also used for scrap metal, rock salt and as barrier wagons for nuclear flask trains.
The specification for Dapol's new 'O' gauge model includes a die-cast compensated chassis, profiled wheels with brass bearings, injection moulded body together with sprung couplings and buffers. The tooling caters for the HBA in original condition with a central ladder at each end together with the later format of the HBA and HEA with side positioned ladders.
Sinkage has been identified by the development team in the samples and this is being resolved with the factory while artwork is being development. Liveries will encompass Railfreight red and grey, freight brown, EWS maroon and Mainline blue with the price set at £55.00 per wagon.
