Das Werk LARC-V Full Build

After the Korean War the legendary DUKW was beginning to show its age, with the US Army issuing a requirement for a replacement. In 1956, the original LARC-V (Lighter, Amphibious Resupply, Cargo, 5-ton) was proposed by the US Army Transportation Research Command under the supervision of Gen Frank Besson and Maj Gen Paul Yount. This prototype was built in 1958 by the Ingersoll Kalamazoo Division of Borg-Warner based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA. Production started three years later in 1962, this time being built by the LaTourneau Westinghouse company and later by Consolidated Diesel Electric Corporation, with production ceasing in 1968.
