Departmental Delights

Accurascale has added a pair of Departmental Mk 2c carriages to its forthcoming collection of all-new ‘OO’ gauge BR Mk 2c vehicles.

These latest additions represent QXA brake force runner DB977390, a former BR Mk 2c First Open (FO), which was part of the Civil Engineer’s Mobile Track Assessment (MTA) fleet from the late 1980s and QPA DB977787, a Brake Standard Open (BSO) used as a Civil Engineer/InterCity West Coast Staff & Tool Coach from 1992.

DB977390 enjoyed a widespread sphere of operation, carrying BR blue and grey with the MTA’s signature red stripe added to its colour scheme and travelled the length and breadth of the rail network, often with former Mk 1 BSK DB977339 and the BR High Speed Track Recording Coach DB999950. DB977787 was initially based at Carnforth for use on the North West section of the West Coast Main Line and was repainted in the distinctive ‘Dutch’ grey and yellow with InterCity Civil Engineer Preston embellishment.

Accurascale’s all-new BR Mk 2cs are set to feature a wealth of detailing including separately applied etched metal and moulded parts including buffer beam pipework, ETH cabling, handrails, roof vents and footsteps. Inside, the detailing includes the ‘winged’ style headrests carried by the seats in these vehicles, interior metal handrails (where appropriate) and more.

Each will also feature interior lighting (controlled by a magnetic wand device) and an onboard ‘stay-alive’ capacitor.

Both models will only be available from the Accurascale Exclusive collection, through the company’s website, priced at £59.95 each. Release is expected during the final quarter of 2023.
