Almost every new model comes with a pack of additional parts which make all the difference. TIM SHACKLETON shows you how to add the finishing touches to your ready-to-run models

Adding the parts from accessory packs with ready-to-run models enhances their appearance greatly. These two Bachmann ‘Atlantics’ have had a full crop of parts fitted, all of which were supplied

with the models.

SOME OF TODAY’S ready-to-run models come with so many add-on details for the purchaser to fit that we might appear to be encroaching on kit-building territory. Back in the ‘noughties’, however, top American manufacturers such as Kato and Athearn Genesis took this to extremes, to the extent that a big modern diesel in ‘HO’ scale could easily come with upwards of 100 additional components. These days all the detail parts come ready-fitted on these locomotives which I’ve always felt was a great shame, as I really enjoyed what by then had become one of the few truly hands-on aspects of off-theshelf- based model railroading.
