Mike Grant branches out and builds S&M’s 1/72 Bristol Sycamore helicopter

BRISTOL SYCAMORE

According to the company website, this is the first 1/72 injection-moulded kit of the Sycamore ever produced. Vague memories of having seen a Glencoe effort in the same scale led to a web search; sure enough, the model existed but was in fact 1/65 and of dubious accuracy. There have been vacform and resin items, but S&M’s claim stands up. It’s a somewhat surprising statistic given the Sycamore’s significance: it was only the second helicopter to enter service with the RAF (1953) and was involved in several military conflicts, as well as enjoying export and civilian success.
