A delighted Chris Jones gets stuck into Eduard’s hotly anticipated 1/48 Spitfire Mk.I, not once, but twice!
The overwhelming appeal and unquestionable beauty of the Supermarine Spitfire has never dimmed and, if anything, seems only to magnify over time.
On a recent visit to Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford, Cambridgeshire, the joy of witnessing a ‘Spit’ in flight and the magnificence of viewing countless airworthy examples in the hangars left as deep an impression as ever. In 2020, 80 years after the Battle of Britain, when the Spitfire (and of course, the Hurricane) captured the imagination of free people all over the globe, the world once again found itself in turmoil, this time of a very different sort. The efforts of the men and women that designed and operated these legendary machines must surely inspire hope that even during the darkest of times, it’s possible to survive, fight back and prevail.
