NON-CARRIER ZERO FROM EDUARD

Having already stunned us with its exquisite 1/48 new-tool A6M2 Zero Type 21 late last year, Eduard has now released a Type 11 boxing in ProfipACK format.

Fans of Pacific Theatre modelling – and Japanese aircraft in particular – had a real treat with Eduard’s debut 1/48 Zero package, entitled Tora Tora Tora!

The firm has now extended this blossoming family with an adapted product, so we can now build the Type 11 Zero. This sub-type was designed to operate from land rather than aircraft carriers. As such, the wing folds, arrester hook and D/F antenna were removed. Eduard’s boxing (82211) has the late Type 11 wing, with revised wing leading-edge cockpit air duct and small, round gun ports.

It also allows the modeller to depict two different carburettor intake fairings, and both exhaust formats (exhaust stub positioned in either the 4th or 5th cowl flap). You can also employ the standard or shortened rear cockpit glazing.

Most of the 64 Type 11s served in China with the Imperial Japanese Navy, and Eduard provides markings for five of these machines, although one of these portrays a Zero that flew in French Indochina. All wear the naval grey scheme.
Extras that accompany the styrene parts are plain and pre-coloured photo-etched metal details and self-adhesive tape masks. The liveries are:

•    3-165, CPO Koshirō Yamashita, 12th Kōkūtai, Hankow airfield, China, September 1940
•    9-182, Lt Mitsugu Kofukuda, 14 th Kōkūtai, Hanoi airfield, French Indochina, October 1940
•    3-173, PO2c Hideo Ôishi, 12th Kōkūtai, Hanlow airfield, China, March 1941
•    3-138, PO3c Kunimori Nakakariya, 12th Kōkūtai, Hankow airfield, China, May 1941
•    3-143, PO3c Masayuki Nakase, 12th Kōkūtai, Hankow airfield, China, May 1941

It’s great to have more Zero sub-types, and with this package you can make a real statement due to the additional PE treats. It costs £23.13 direct from Eduard, or £29.20 from UK mail order retailer Hannants.
