Hornby’s Class 90 Bo-Bo electric may have started life in the late 1980s, but it still holds potential today. MIKE WILD shows how he enhanced Hornby’s latest version – the uniquely liveried DB Cargo operated 90024 which carries Malcolm Rail’s photographic livery.
One-off liveries can be spectacular and no more so than the distinctive and striking wrap applied to DB Cargo’s Class 90 Bo-Bo electric 90024 to celebrate the continued partnership with Malcolm Logistics.
The wrap was applied in the summer of 2016 and features an image of Coigach in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland on each side overlaid with the Malcolm Rail logo and Greener Cleaner Logistics Services lettering underneath.
Above: The completed model leads a container train with its new fixtures underneath improved wheels and pantograph. There is always more you can do with these models – there are etched metal replacement parts for the light cluster for example – but that is part of the pleasure, choosing how far you want to go.
Hornby announced that it would be releasing 90024 in this special colour scheme in its 2021 range and we couldn’t wait to get out hands on one to see how it looked in model form. It has to be said that the finish…
