F-111 Fort Worth Swinger
Key Publishing’s new book on the F-111 is an affordable and handy reference tool for anyone seeking to build examples of the type.
Fans of General Dynamics’ F-111 may have spotted that Hobby 2000 has re-released Hasegawa’s excellent 1/72 kit. If you’re new to the subject and need a reference book, a great-value option is the new softback from Key Publishing under the AirForces Monthly label.
This 96-page work by Bob Archer describes every sub-type of the famous Ardvark family, including the FB-111A operated by the US Strategic Air Command, and the jets flown by the Royal Australian Air Force. Despite the small-ish format (approximately 17 x 24cm), it offers a wealth of information and useful photographs, all of which are in colour. From the type’s shaky debut to Desert Storm and beyond, all the F-111’s variants are covered, and modellers will particularly find the imagery a great guide to colour schemes, weaponry, nose art and airframe nuances.
Even the electronic countermeasures-focussed EF-111A Raven, commonly known as the ‘Spark Vark’, is covered, and in general there is much here for anyone considering building not just Hasegawa’s re-released toolings, but any manufacturer’s kits, regardless of scale.
The book costs just £15.99 and to order, telephone 00 44 (0)1780 480404 or visit: shop.keypublishing.com
