GERMAN NAVY VESSEL DIGITISED

Modellers of maritime subjects have a superb reference tool in Kagero’s Super Drawings in 3D series. They offer eye-poppingly detailed digital renderings of every part of the vessel in question, along with wider views. The standard of artwork is so good, it’s as if you are standing on the deck yourself.

This latest volume (16080) on Germany’s SMS Torpedoboot A-III is ideal for any modeller considering a build of Mirage Hobby’s 1/350 kit, which is available in either standard or Model Set format, the latter having paint and glue.
This class of vessel, a coastal torpedo boat, was built from 1915. Kagero’s book gives a basic history and a list of individual craft (categorised by hull number, shipyard, build number, laid down and launch dates and more, before launching in to the glorious set of 3D illustrations.

All of the colour drawings have basic labelling, and they look truly realistic, even down to unpainted brass items such as gun control wheels having a degree of polished shine. And you can almost feel the texture of the rope that’s visible, securing life rafts/lifeboats, etc

All the rigging is shown, making life easy when it’s time to tackle this task, and individual close-up views of items such as torpedo tubes and ship’s boats, in isolation, are highly useful for helping to get the little nuances just right – even if it means resorting to scratch-building.
