L&B LYN debuts!
Narrow gauge modellers are being treated to a brand-new locomotive with the arrival of Heljan’s model of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway’s one and only Baldwin 2-4-2T. MIKE WILD inspects Lyn for ‘OO9’.
The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway was one of the great narrow gauge railways of Britain. Stretching 19 miles from the coastline at Lynton to a connection with the standard gauge Southern Railway at Barnstaple, it opened in 1898. Its spectacular scenery was a great challenge to the engineers which built the line and it was worked by a fleet of three Manning Wardle 2-6-2Ts initially which have already been recreated for ‘OO9’ by Heljan.
