Heljan shows new Type 2 samples

Heljan Class 26 sample

Heljan has received updated engineering samples of its all-new ‘O’ gauge models of the BRCW Class 26 and Class 27 Bo-Bo diesels.

Heralded as the first of a new generation of Heljan ‘O’ gauge models, they are set to have new features including ‘plug-and-play’ DCC capability, separately switched lighting for the cab interior and engine room lights as well as additional detail variations within each batch akin to ‘OO’ gauge products.

The new samples of the two locomotive classes feature a number of improvements over previous samples. The Class 26/1, illustrated here in later condition with air tanks between the bogies, represents the class in its early to mid-1980s condition with air brakes and without headcode discs. The sample has corrections to the bufferbeam and sandbox design while Heljan has also added the missing multiple working jumper cables on this sample.

The Class 26/1 will be available in four liveries modelling a BR blue Class 26/1 without numbers (Cat No. 2680), a Railfreight red stripe Class 26/1 with white cantrail stripe (2681), a ‘Dutch’ grey and yellow example (2682) and 26027 in Railfreight red stripe livery with an orange cantrail stripe and weathering (2683).

The Class 27 tooling has also been modified with adjustments to the shape of the headcode box, waistband beading omitted from across the cab front and the addition of multiple working cables.

Eight liveries are planned for the Class 27 covering BR green with small yellow warning panels (2770), 5370 in BR green with full yellow ends and weathering (2771), BR green with full yellow ends and cream waistband (2772), BR blue with full yellow ends in early condition (2773), BR blue with full yellow ends in late condition (2774), D5382 in BR two-tone green with small yellow warning panels (2775), D5389 in BR blue with small yellow warning panels (2776) and 27032 in BR blue with full yellow ends, Highland Rail stag emblems and weathering (2777).

Following the modifications to the tooling Heljan has said that both locomotives are close being approved with the next stage being decorated samples from the factory
