HIQ Circle Masks

Any airbrush user will find these masking elements from HIQ Parts incredibly useful

HIQ circle masks

Life can get tricky when you need to mask a circular shape for airbrushing, if you don’t have a dedicated mask-cutting tool. Retailer Premium Hobbies has come to the rescue, though, with these super-handy circle mask sets made by Japan’s HIQ Parts. There are four packs in all, labelled Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large, and differently sized circles (positive and negative) are provided with each.

Plenty of situations can be covered by these masks… think circular aerial panels on fast jets, any kind of flat, circular light lens on an aircraft or vehicle, searchlight or signalling lamp glazing and more. Wacky colour schemes worn by some World War Two USAAF ‘Assembly Ship’ bombers, and Indian Air Force MiG-21s/MiG-29s, for example, have had painted circles as part of the décor and they can easily be replicated with HIQ’s masks. And they can also help in the spraying of various roundels if they fall within the sizes offered.
The small set has 570 circles from 1mm to 2.8mm in diameter, the Medium offers 323 circles from 3mm to 4.6mm, while the Large has 174 circles from 4.8mm to 6mm. The XL set (which costs £3.75 – the others are £2.50) provides 136 circles from 6.2mm to 7.6mm.
