Coronation Coach CAD revealed

Development of Hornby’s all-new ‘OO’ gauge London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) ‘Coronation’ coaches has progressed to the CAD stage of the process, with the company sharing rendered images of the new models.

Introduced in 1937 for use on the LNER’s prestigious ‘Coronation’ streamlined express between King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley, nine vehicles made up the special train, formed of four two-car articulated sets topped off during the summer with a sleek ‘beavertail’ observation saloon at the rear.

CAD renders of Hornby’s all-new ‘OO’ gauge vehicles show the project to be at an advanced state, reflecting the level of detailing that can be expected, especially to the art deco interiors. With an example of the ‘beavertail’ observation saloon located within the One:One Collection at its Margate site, Hornby’s development team have been able to measure the prototype in detail, with variations throughout its career incorporated within the tooling suite for the future.

The specification includes interior lighting, all-wheel pick-up and concealed capacitor for flicker-free operation, while the articulated coaches will feature magnetic couplings and central articulated bogies to maintain their streamlined appearance in operation.

Four twin articulated car packs are planned featuring a Brake Third and Kitchen Third (Cat No. R40223), twin First Opens (R40224), an Open Third and Kitchen Third (R40225), Open Third and Brake Third (R40226), plus the ‘beavertail’ observation car 1719 (R40227).
