HELLO and welcome to the latest issue of Hornby Magazine which is headlined by one of the most iconic yet unsuccessful trains to run on the British railway network – the Class 370 Advanced Passenger Train (APT).
Built in the late 1970s, it promised to revolutionise travel on the West Coast Main Line with its tilt system which allowed it to travel faster along the winding northern stretch of the route through the Northern Fells and Southern Scotland. Its importance was noticed by Hornby almost immediately with its 1980 catalogue announcing the arrival of a ‘OO’ gauge model.
