Hornby releases its 21st century Rocket

OF ALL the items in Hornby’s 2020 centenary year catalogue, Stephenson’s Rocket must be one of the most sought after. We’ve heard shops have pre-sold all of their allocation of the Centenary range collector’s edition, but all is not lost as a second version is coming for the main catalogue which features different carriage names.

This is genesis: virtually every successful steam locomotive after 1829 followed many of Rocket’s developments.

For this review we were fortunate to be able to get our hands on one of the hotly anticipated centenary sets which comes in reproduction Tri-ang Railways style packaging. However, despite its apparent rarity, it is such a significant model that its arrival on the British model railway scene that we felt that it really should be documented as part of Hornby’s centenary year.
