Hornby's APT in focus

Hornby has received the first engineering samples for its eagerly awaited all-new 'OO' gauge model of the APT tilting train. Mike Wild takes a closer look at the first samples in this special online feature.

APT

THE ADVANCED Passenger Train wasn't a great success in service, but in model form it has long been sought after as a modern production. The real trains were unveiled in 1978, construction started in 1971, and they entered public service in 1979 on the West Coast Main Line. Three sets were built at Derby Works, but they were all withdrawn by 1986 due to ongoing problems with the trains.
